Isaac Woodhouse has now had a few weeks to settle into the starting quarterback job at Bakersfield College, and the early signs are encouraging.
The Melbourne product opened the season with 153 passing yards in his college debut, then completed 14 of 18 passes for 138 yards without an interception against Allan Hancock.
Against Ventura, Woodhouse went 18 of 29 for 209 yards and threw a 34-yard touchdown pass. There was also a late interception, so there is still plenty to clean up, but the overall trend is moving in the right direction.
What matters most is that he is getting genuine quarterback reps. This is not a novelty roster spot or a cameo. Woodhouse is starting games, running the offence and getting the sort of experience that can actually move a quarterback forward.
Bakersfield is 2–1 heading into conference play, which makes Woodhouse one of the Australians Abroad players worth checking every week.
