Australia’s NFL punters were busy in the opening week of the season, with Jeremy Crawshaw producing the biggest statistical performance of the group.
Crawshaw punted six times for Denver, averaging 52.3 yards with a long of 68. Three of his six punts finished inside the 20 and only two were returned, for seven yards. His net average was 47.8 yards.
Michael Dickson was typically tidy for Seattle. He punted five times, put three inside the 20 and did not allow a return yard. His gross and net averages were both 45.4.
Cameron Johnston had four punts for Pittsburgh, averaging 48.5 yards with two inside the 20, while Tory Taylor averaged 51.0 yards on his two punts for Chicago.
Rookie Brett Thorson also got his first regular-season action for Minnesota. He punted four times, with three finishing inside the 20 and no touchbacks. Mitch Wishnowsky was also active, punting four times and putting three inside the 20.
This is likely to be the most useful way for AGN to handle the Australian NFL group most weeks. If one produces something exceptional, it can become its own story. Otherwise, the weekly wrap keeps all of the Australian contributions in one place.
